Having problems running the CD?

Important Late Breaking Information

June 5 2006: * IE Security Update (KB912812/MS06-013) and ScriptX *

The security update for XP SP2 released on 11th April 2006 but slowly rolling out around the world is not compatible with old versions of ScriptX. ScriptX is used in the workbook CD to control printing of printable forms and other material. Since the CD was released prior to Windows XP SP2, and especially, long before the above-mentioned update, it may be necessary to update ScriptX on your machine.

If you are having difficulties with printing, most typically manifested as "hanging" after pressing the "print this form" button on printable forms, you are advised to update your machine as soon as possible, by following this link to Meadroid - the developers of the ScriptX component - and following the instructions there. Please be aware that you must be using Internet Explorer on this link for the update to take effect. Other browsers will not allow you to update correctly.

After installing this update, you may still need to follow the steps below, depending on how your system security is set up.

Step 1

Ensure that your computer meets the minimum requirements needed to run this software, by reading this document first.

Step 2

If your operating system is Windows XP, Windows XP Service Pack 1, or Windows XP Service Pack 2, and you are having difficulty in seeing the included documents, your security settings may be incorrectly set. This software uses an Internet Explorer object to display the documents.

Make sure that the security settings for your installation of Internet Explorer are set to their default values. If you are running in a corporate environment, and you have an IT manager, or IT helpdesk operative, you should check with them to make sure that doing the following is OK.

  1. Click the 'Start' button from the Windows taskbar (typically located at the bottom of the screen)

  2. Choose 'Settings'

  3. Choose 'Control Panel'

  4. Double click the 'Internet Settings' item.

  5. In the resulting dialog window, click the 'Security' tab.

  6. Choose the 'Local Intranet' zone.

  7. Click the 'Default Level' button

  8. You should see something similar to this figure:

  9. Optionally, you can do this for all the other zones too.

  10. You may need to restart windows for this to fully take effect, depending on your computer's software environment.

Step 3

If you computer still does not display the contents of documents, and your operating system is Windows XP Service Pack 2, this step should provide a fix. SP2 introduced some extended security items for Internet Explorer which disables (by default) ActiveX controls in web pages. This software uses an ActiveX control to control layout of printing.

You can enable this so that the software run from the CD can access ActiveX controls.

  1. Open the 'Control Panel' in a manner similar to the steps above, and open the 'Internet Settings' item.

  2. This time, in the resulting dialog box, click the 'Advanced' tab.

  3. You should see something similar to the figure below:

  4. Locate the item labelled 'Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer', by scrolling the list using the scrollbar at right.

  5. Check the box that appears next to this item at left by clicking on it. Make sure it is checked.

  6. Click the 'Apply' button

  7. Click the 'OK' button

  8. You may need to restart Windows for this to take effect, depending on your software environment.

  9. The first time you encounter a content page within the software, you will be presented with a dialog which asks the question:

'Active content can harm your computer or disclose personal information. Are you sure that you want to allow CDs to run active content on your computer?'

  10. Check the box in this dialog labelled 'In the future, do not show this message'

  11. Click the 'Yes' button.

  12. From now on your software should work as intended.
